On the test day

What can I take to the test centre or have with me for my online proctored test session?

Test Centres

You will need to have an appropriate photo identification document (ID) and a printed or electronic copy of your Admission Ticket.  Bottled water is also permitted but must be placed at the front of the test room during the test sitting.

If you are sitting the test at a test centre, you will be provided with scratch paper (one sheet at a time) and a pen.

Further advice on attending test sessions at test centres will be provided in the reminder email.

Remote Proctoring

You are permitted to have a clear bottle or glass of water on your desk during the test sitting. You are also permitted to have two sheets of scratch paper and a pen on hand prior to the start of your scheduled session.

Further advice on attending test sessions via remote proctoring can be found in the step-by-step guide (available at https://teacheredtest.acer.edu.au/register/remote-proctoring) and the reminder email. You should also review the permitted testing aids and ensure that you have everything you will need to sit the test and that your test room is prepared appropriately prior to the test sitting.

How long is the test?

Test centres

The test consists of two components: literacy and numeracy. The duration of each test component is 2 hours (including a short tutorial at the beginning of each test component). The registration process before each test component will take about 30 minutes. You can leave the test room once you have finished the test, however, it is not possible to leave the literacy or numeracy test component in the last 10 minutes. If you have booked consecutive test sessions, you may leave the test centre after the first test component and return to complete the second test session. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are present at the test centre at the reporting time for each test component you have booked. Care should be taken when making return travel arrangements including parking to allow adequate time at the test centre.

Remote proctoring

The test consists of two components: literacy and numeracy. The duration of each test component is 2 hours (including a short tutorial at the beginning of each test component). The pre-test procedures can take 30 minutes to one hour to complete depending on your computer and internet connection.

What identification do I bring on the test day?

Test centres

On the test day you will be required to show one form of photo-bearing identification. The only acceptable forms of identification are:

  • Current photo-bearing passport
  • Current photo-bearing driver's licence (learner’s permit, probationary or full licence)
  • Current photo-bearing Australian Keypass
  • Current photo-bearing Australian Proof of Age Card

The photograph on your identification document must be recognisable as a likeness to you as you are on the day of the test. No other form of identification will be accepted.

If you do not have one of these forms of identification, please allow enough time to organise one before the test date as you will not be able to enter the test centre without an approved form of identification. Some of these identification documents can take approximately one month to obtain.

If you are intending to use your driver’s licence as identification and need to renew or update your licence before the test date (for example changing from a learner’s permit to a probationary licence or from a probationary licence to a full licence), please ensure you allow adequate time to receive the new licence. A temporary licence without a photograph or a combination of temporary licence and expired approved identification will not be accepted as identification at the test centre.

Student cards and documents that have expired will NOT be accepted under any circumstance. Copies and screenshots of identification documents are also not acceptable forms of ID.

Your date of birth, first and last name on your identification must match your Admission Ticket details.

If you do not present one of the above acceptable identification documents, together with your Admission Ticket, you will not be able to sit the test.

Remote proctoring

From May 2021, your ID will be verified by ACER prior to you sitting your test and you will not be required to take a photo of your ID or show your ID to ProctorU’s proctors during your test session.

On your test day, you are required to take a photo of yourself as part of the pre-test identity check. Please note that the system will also ask you to take a photo of your ID. Do NOT take a photo of your ID. Please take a photo of yourself instead.

Proctors should not ask you to show your photo ID as an arrangement between ACER and ProctorU. However, if your proctor asks for your ID, do not show your ID to the proctor. Instead, please tell the proctor that they should verify your identity via the information displayed on your ACER candidate account homepage.

What is the policy for misconduct?

The test is administered in a secure environment, either in a test centre or by remote proctoring. Candidates are required to abide by the test rules (as instructed by the test supervisors and remote proctors) at all times during their test sitting.

Before you sit the test, you are advised to familiarise yourself with the test rules and information as to what constitutes Misconduct. You should also review the Permitted testing aids. If you sit the test by remote proctoring, please also read ProctorU's test rules stated on https://support.proctoru.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043127892-What-am-I-allowed-and-not-allowed-to-do-during-my-exam-.

Test supervisors or online proctors will formally report suspicious behaviour to ACER. If you are found to be in breach of the test rules, the consequences may include cancellation of your test registration without a refund, withholding of your test results, and potential disqualification from sitting the test in future test windows.

Any incident of misconduct will be managed on a case-by-case basis. Higher education providers will be notified of confirmed incidents of misconduct involving their students.

Can I reschedule my remote proctoring session if I feel unwell during my session?

If you become unwell during the pre-test stage before you start the exam, you may inform the proctor and request to reschedule a session, subject to the available test session appointment times listed on the remote proctoring booking site. You should also review the deadline to schedule your test session. If you become unwell after you have started the exam, you will not be permitted to reschedule a session. If you choose to stop the test, your test will be scored as it is.
